Foster was the first in the family line of ordained ministers leading to Humbert. Mrs. James Foster, Martha, along with her parents Thomas and Lucy Hodgens, and family, were members of Thomas Campbell'sPresbyterian congregation in Ahorey, Ireland, before the three families' immigrated to Washington Township in western Pennsylvania.
