The Ideal of Human Unity is one of the main works of Sri Aurobindo revealing the evolution of consciousness that will lead to the building of the United States of Planet Earth as the realization and manifestation of this ideal. Human brotherhood, liberty and equality are self-existent realities, inmost truths of the Soul of Man. They are stronger than physical kinship, vital association or intellectual agreement. That is why an age of the United States of Planet Earth and Human Unity must first securely be founded upon a change of the inner human nature and inner way of living. Then the Soul of Man as the leading power can drop the bondage of the human ego, break the chains and demand the true Freedom, the freedom of its self-development, the self-development of the divine in man in all his being. When it claims equality, what it is claiming is that freedom equally for all and the recognition of that same soul, the same godhead in all human beings. When it strives for brotherhood, it is founding that equal freedom of self-development on a common aim, a common life, a unity of mind and feeling founded upon the recognition of this inner spiritual unity. These three things are in fact the nature of the soul; for freedom, equality and unity are the eternal attributes of the Spirit.
