Throughout his career, the renown American sculptor Richard Serra has kept a large number of notebooks and sketchbooks which by now fill an entire library in his studio. Contained within them are delicate sketches of his travels, of landscapes, architecture and of other ideas, some of which the artist developed into mature sculptures and drawings. Serra has personally selected ten of his sketchbooks, two of which he made in Iceland in 1989 and a very recent one from Qatar, which are reproduced here in facsimile.Machu Picchu steps, Peru, 19728.4 × 10.6 in. / 21.3 × 27 cm44 pagesLeatherbound hardcoverAfangar, Videy Island, Iceland, 19896 × 4 in. / 14.6 × 9.4 cm152 pagesLeatherbound hardcoverBasalt columns: Svartifoss, Iceland, 198910.5 × 14 in. / 25 × 33 cm32 pagesHalfbound hardcoverSaqqara pyramid, Egypt, 19908.3 × 10.8 in. / 21 × 27.5 cm44 pagesHalfbound hardcoverSchunnemonk Fork, Storm King Art Center, 199112.5 × 14.4 in. / 31.8 × 36.5 cm88 pagesClothbound hardcoverSnake Eyes and Boxcars, Geyserville, CA, 19938.1 × 10.6 in. / 20.6 × 27 cm136 pagesLeatherbound hardcoverWake, 20039.8 × 12.2 in. / 25 × 31 cm48 pagesSoftcoverTorqued Ellipses, Guggeneheim Bilbao, Spain, 200512.5 × 14.4 in. / 31.8 × 36.5 cm52 pagesClothbound hardcoverPromenade, Grand Palais, Paris, 200813.8 × 8.3 in. / 35.1 × 21 cm84 pagesSoftcoverEast-West/West-East, Qatar, 20144 × 5 in. / 9.5 × 12.5 cm84 pagesLeatherboundTen Facsimile books housed together in a wooden crate15.1 × 11.6 × 7.9 in. / 38.5 × 29.5 × 20 cmLimited edition of 1,000 boxed sets signed and numbered by the artist.mehr
