Er gewann den ASCAP Deems Taylor Award für herausragenden Musikjournalismus, und er schreibt regelmäßig für das Wall Street Journal und viele weitere Zeitschriften. Außerdem ist er der Autor von A Natural History of the Piano und Temperament: How Music Became a Battleground for the Great Minds of Western Civilisation. Er lebt in Closter, New Jersey.
