KlappentextTrademarks, which have been used since ancient times, play a fundamental role in designating the origin of products or manufacturers, as well as being extremely important in relations between companies and consumers, as they act as a security factor for both, making it easier to identify the attributes of products and companies. In Brazil, they were regulated by Decree No. 2,682 of 1875 and are currently governed by Law No. 9,279 of May 14, 1996. They are registered by the INPI and are considered to be the most important intellectual property. This study assesses whether companies in Sergipe promote the protection of their trademarks through registration and investigates whether the use of registration is satisfactory or not, with the aim of providing an overview of the state in relation to trademark registration so that it is later possible to outline actions and objectives to promote a culture of trademark protection.
