Clementi trat gegen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts verstärkt für das Klavier in Nachfolge des Cembalos ein. Er komponierte ausdrücklich für das neue Instrument und veröffentlichte 1801 eine Klavierschule. Zeugnis seines pädagogischen Interesses sind auch die "Six progressive Sonatinas" op. 36 - sechs Sonatinen in aufsteigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad, die bis heute im Klavierunterricht außerordentlich beliebt sind. Unsere Urtextausgabe folgt der etablierten Veröffentlichungstradition, indem sie dem Notentext die Erstausgabe von 1797 zugrunde legt. Our Urtext edition follows the long established practice of using the musical text of the first edition from 1797.
