Autor

Robert Smith is an expert in banking, mergers, and management following his of his 50 plus years in banking, leadership, and consulting work. His background includes his role as the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Security Pacific Corporation and Security Pacific Bank, which in the late 80's was the 5th largest banking company in the United States. Security Pacific fell under hard times in the early 90's and under Smith's direction he orchestrated its merger with Bank of America to preserve shareholder value and the career of many fine executives and employees
Smith is a graduate of the University of Southern California and earned a law degree from Van Norman University. He has authored the book Dead Bank Walking: One Gutsy Bank's Struggle for Survival as well as a supplemental Nearly Dead Bank Walking in 2023. He has also written numerous articles on banking and lectured on the risks associated with banking and the effect of mergers on employees, communities, and customers. Since his retirement he has formed both Commerce National Bank, a community bank, and a private Investment Banking firm in Southern California. He has also written and published Bye Bye Banks, The Changed Face of Banking, Successful Business Leaders as well as Journaling Memories, Confession of a Catholic Convert, and the novel, Boardroom Confidential.
His level of experience has grown through service on numerous boards including six NYSE companies and as a trustee of both the University of Southern California and Santa Clara University.
Marshall and Own Smith are students at Notre Dame and Vanderbilt Universities who assisted in the creation, writing and development of the book.
