As technology continues to saturate modern society, agriculture has started to adopt digital computing and data-driven innovations. This emergence of 'smart' farming has led to various advancements in the field, including autonomous equipment and the collection of climate, livestock, and plant data. As connectivity and data management continue to revolutionize the farming industry, empirical research is required to understand these technological developments. This book explores the applications of various artificial intelligence techniques by identifying and describing technical, functional, and non-functional future technologies for smart farming and agriculture. The book also presents practical application opportunities for the resolution of real-world problems, including contributions from precision irrigation, greenhouse data, livestock monitoring, automation, IoT ecosystems for agriculture, cloud computing, mobile robots for precision agriculture, remote sensing applications, anddata mining. In addition, this book provides summary information about different soilless techniques such as hydroponics, aeroponics, and aquaponics, among others. This book is ideally designed for farmers, agriculturalists, product managers, farm holders, manufacturers, equipment suppliers, industrialists, governmental professionals, researchers, academicians, and students seeking current research on technological applications within agriculture and farming.

Dr. Kusum Pandey is currently working in a vibrant village programme. She has published more than 20 research papers and  book chapters in national and international journals.ewer She is a reviewer of many reputed journals of Springer, Elsevier and Taylor and Francis. Her research interests include Soilless cultivation, Precision agriculture, Organic farming, Natural resource management, Hydrological modelling, Climate change, Artificial intelligence and Water quality.

Er. N. L. Kushwaha is a scientist at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) located in Pusa Campus, New Delhi, India. He has been involved in teaching and research at the institute for the past four years. Prior to joining IARI, he worked as an assistant agricultural engineer (AAE) at the National Seeds Corporation, Ltd. for over three years. During his time there, he specialized in exploring sensor-based irrigation systems such as central pivot irrigation systems for precise water application. He has authored 1 book, 10 book chapters, and 35 research papers in national and international journals. His research interests include AI in water resource management and planning, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), climate change, watershed modeling and management.?
Dr. Chaitanya Pande is a GIS consultant at Primus Partners Private Limited, Delhi, India. He completed a Ph.D. in Environment Science from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati, and an M.Sc. in Geo-informatics from Amravati University in 2011.  He has more than 10 years of teaching, research, and industrial experience. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals of high international reputations with editorial board membership in the Journal of the American Agricultural and Biological Sciences. He has published 57 research papers, 1 textbook, 1 edited book, 19 conferences papers, and 5 book chapters with more than 830 citations. His research interests include Remote Sensing, GIS, Google Earth Engine, Machine learning, watershed management, hydrogeology, hydrological modeling, drought monitoring, land use and land cover analysis, groundwater quality, urban planning, hydro-geochemistry, groundwater modelling, geology, hyperspectral remote sensing, remote sensing and GIS application in natural resources management, watershed management, and environmental monitoring and assessment subjects.

Dr. K. G. Singh is a principal scientist at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He has 31 years of research experience in water resources management, micro irrigation, protected cultivation and computer simulation modeling. He has achieved wide international exposure by visiting many countries to participate in conferences and meetings or advanced trainings in net house designing. He has led 6 research projects as a principal investigator (PI) and co-PI. His scientific contributions to farmers are documented by the inclusion of his 10 recommendations in the Package of Practices of PAU in the field of protected cultivation, drip irrigation, mulch-laying machines, and soilless cultivation of vegetables in polyhouse and rooftop vegetable nutrition garden models. He has published more than 55 research papers in national and international journals. He is also credited with 1 book, 10 book chapters, 12 research bulletins, 23 popular articles, and 17 TV and radio talks.
