Die Register Innocenz' III., 9. Band

9. Pontifikatsjahr, 1206/1207. Texte und Indices
TaschenbuchKartoniert, Paperback
Deutsch
The ninth volume of the edition of Pope Innocent III's chancery-registers, published as the seventh in the series of the whole edition, contains 269 letters written in 1206 and 1207, most of which were issued by the pope. One entry was sent by the papal emissaries receiving the oath to the pope of the inhabitants of Alessandria, and several pieces issued by others were inserted into papal letters. Most of these, however, deal with: theological, liturgical, legal and juridical questions; church organisation in the Latin Empire of Constantinople and relations with the Greek church; political and ecclesiastical issues in Poland, Hungary, Sicily, and the German Empire; the emerging conflict with the king of England over the election to the See of Canterbury; matrimonial matters and property questions; the suppression of heresies; affairs in the Patrimonium Petri; privileges and confirmation of rights and possessions of bishoprics, monasteries and hospitals; matters concerning the episcopate and litigation within the Church, such as contested elections to bishoprics and abbeys or disciplinary problems, and a variety of decisions offering insights into major and minor problems of the church and the people around 1200. Many of the letters have become decretals. The volume presents a critical edition of the texts, the dating of hitherto undated letters, detailed historical comment, identification of textual parallels and quotations from the Bible, Canon and Roman law, theological, liturgical and classical texts, and the letters' insertion in decretal collections. It has been prepared as a collaborative work by the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung and the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome.mehr
