Charlotte Perriand is one of the foremost figures in twentieth-century interior design. Together with her collaborators Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, she created many pieces of furniture we now consider classics, including the instantly recognisable LC4 chaise. Her pioneering work with metal was particularly instrumental in paving the way for the machine-age aesthetic popular throughout the 1920s and '30s. Die Architektin und Designerin Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) ist eine Schlüsselfigur der Designgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Als eine der ersten Frauen in der Männerdomäne Architektur entwarf sie Häuser aus Fertigelementen sowie die Einrichtung von Studentenappartements und Möbel. Sie entwickelte ihre Möbel jeweils für bestimmte Orte und liess sie in Kleinserien produzieren. Viele davon sind zu Designklassikern und zu gesuchten Sammlerobjekten geworden.

Der Band 3 dieser insgesamt vierteiligen autoritativen Monografie über Charlotte Perriand umfasst die Jahre 1956 bis 1968. Im Zentrum steht zum einen ihre Kooperation mit Steph Simon, der ihr zusammen mit Jean Prouvé die künstlerische Leitung seiner Galerie für zeitgenössische Einrichtung in Paris überantwortete. Den zweiten Schwerpunkt bilden das von Perriand geschaffene Firmenimage für Air France und verschiedene von ihr gestaltete Reisebüros und Niederlassungen der Fluggesellschaft weltweit. Schliesslich widmet sich das Buch auch Perriands kaum bekannter Beteiligung an der Neueinrichtung des Palais des Nations in Genf, dem europäischen Hauptsitz der Vereinten Nationen, ihrem eigenen Ferienhaus in Savoyer Alpen und zwei kaum publizierten Wohnhäusern in Paris und Rio de Janeiro sowie zahlreichen Möbelentwürfen der späten 1950er- und 1960er-Jahre.

Jacques Barsac has directed a number of internationally successful documentary films on historic personalities, such as Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Jean Cocteau, and Winston Churchill. Since 2001 he has been carrying out extensive research on Perriand´s life and work.
